Intro to paper 4
The problem is that costs of attending college are very pricey. We spend at least two thousand dollars a semester to attend college. And the prices of food are ridiculous. Not only is it ridiculous, but it is a problem. The problem is that we spend too much money in the cafeteria. Most people would rather spend less money, so they spend money on fast food, which isn't healthy in the long run. We also spend at least two hundred dollars on parking permits because we like to be closer to the school when leaving to go home. The students are affected deeply by this problem. About the food problem, it is unhealthy to eat fast food so much because we can't afford the cafeteria food if we're not on the meal plan. Students may quit attending some classes because they don't feel like leaving for school early to park on cajun fields, and can't afford to pay two hundred dollars for a parking permit. My solution is that we hold special fundraisers to raise money for these things. Another one of my proposals is that we use food from the agricultural department to make our food cheaper and healthier.

A Week in the Life of A Part Time Teacher
1.)I think that the reason why he acted this way is because he was having the same kind of problems that Claitor was having as well.
a. I think that they should have all gotten together and made arrangements that would have worked with their schedules. Some of the students at this college had children, and have schedules outside of school. It would have been easier on them if they would have just worked with their schedules. There should have been more options for people like parents who needs the extra help.
B. I think one thing that they could have proposed were day cares for the parents of these children. There are some parents who have no families who are able to take care of their children while they are away at school. Yes, it is expensive, but in the long run isn't it better to have an education, rather than dropping out of school? It may be time consuming and expensive, but I think it would have been worth it. The chances of this happening are slim to none, but I think that it would have been a good idea. Afterall, there are many schools around Louisiana that have day cares and family housing.
2.) It affects them very much. Her students seem to really look forward to taking her classes and they seem upset whenever she tells them that she will not be teaching that class. In one of the paragraphs, it even says that she told one her students that they didn't offer her enough classes, so he wouldn't feel discouraged and not confident.
3.)a. Maybe they would suggest day care. And the chances of this happening would probably be slim to none, because of the cost that this would put in the school's budget. Many schools can't afford day care at all.
b. Another thing that they might suggest are online classes. This might be a good possibility of happening because online classes are offered at most colleges and are usually not that expensive. They are also included in most school's tuition fees.
4.) There seems to be a big money issue.
An apposing argument could be that there are ways to budget out a school.
5.) The teachers deserve to get paid more for what they do.
The students deserve to have a schedule that they are able to work with that way they can still attend school and take care of their families.

Claim- My claim is that earning a baccalaureate degree does not make someone intelligent.
Reason- There are so many more aspects of intelligence. Intelligence isn't just about knowledge; it's also about experience, things that make us grow in our knowledge. A person will need experience, knowledge, and growth within themselves to truly have intelligence. Common intelligence is also important because without it, we wouldn't be intelligent in every aspect.
Warrant- In order to be intelligent, you also need to possess many more qualities such as street smart, common sense, and book sense.

"Assessing Your Essay Author's Rhetorical Situation"
The author of Education In A Multicultural Society: Our Future's Greatest Challenge is Lisa D. Delpit. The author is an african american scholar in education. The author wants to improve education and she argues that teacher's should be focused more on how to address the student's problem and solve it in the best fashion possible. The author explains in detail how students may be misread because of their culture. She states that teachers may use different forms of discipline because of culture. The author uses a serious but respectful attitude when talking about the arguments. And the author uses personal experience as the background. The purpose of the audience is to understand where the author is coming from and understand how what the author means when she goes into detail about the culture misunderstanding. The attitude of the audience is probably very serious and attentive. The purpose of this text is to show not only teachers, but students, that there is a misunderstanding about cultural diversity. The author is trying to explain that teachers need to understand the cultural difference of the students. The time and place that is taking place is in today's society and community.

"On Self Respect" by: Joan Didion
1,) I think that the effects of this may be both negative as well as positive. Some readers may agree with some of the allusions to illustrate her point, while other may not. But I think the illusions are more positive as long as the points she is making are understandable to the reader. I think her allusions are pretty positive though. I think it just depends on one's understanding of the allusions. I found it positive because I understood the way of which she was describing it. I also don't find her allusions alienating at all.
2,) Self-respect is something that our grandparents, whether or not they had it, knew all about it. People with self-respect have the courage of their mistakes. Nonetheless, character-the willingness to accept responsiblitiy for one's own life- is the source from which self-respect spring. Yes, I think most people, generally, would agree with these statements. If you look at the older generation, such as our grandparents, they are very strict when it comes to giving and showing respect to other people. I also think that people that have self-respect have the courage to learn from their mistakes and to make themselves better people. And I also think that if you take responsibilites of your life and your mistakes, it makes shows you self-respect and makes you a better person in the end.
3.) It is connected because we need to have self-respect within ourselves to have confidence in what we are doing. If we disciplince ourselves, in what we are doing, it shows that we have enough self-respect within ourselves to be better in our work. It shows we care and have enough self-respect to build up ourselves. Without self respect, what we do will come out as messy and careless.

Prompt #4 Claiming and Education
It applies to women because a lot of women do not go to college who want to. A good bit of women are stay at home mom's and take care of their families. I think that if we are capable of getting an education, we should be able to. There are a lot of people who think that it is a woman's duty to take care of the famly and let the man be the provider, but some women like being independent. Women can gain so much independence through an education. Everything we learn from college will give us more independence. The author states that it is our responsibity to get an eduacation. Like she said, "It is not our right; it is our claim." I think that we, as women, should get an education if we desire one. It is also appying to men because many men go to college and get an eduation as well. Like women, they deserve to get an education if they desire one and work hard enough. No one can take your education from you.
I think what she means is that there are two parts. The teacher teaches the students that are receiving an education. I think that the teacher gives the student knowledge to gain an education. And for that gift, I think that it is making the student rich because the teacher is giving them knowledge. By students being in a class, I think they agree to gain the knowledge that the teacher i trying to give them. The teacher agrees to teach the student and to give them the knowledge that they need in order to become more intellectual. I think that the teacher has the larger, ethical goal because the teacher has to be moral in some sense while teaching. The teacher has to teach whether the student wants to learn or not. But I think that both the student and the teacher both have to have some form of moral and ethical concerns.
